41 Journalists Killed in 2008 — CPJ

The Committee to Protect Journalists recently released statistics on the number of journalists killed either in the line of duty or were deliberately targeted for assassination in 2008. A total of 41 confirmed cases were recorded in 2008 11 of which happened in war-torn Iraq, followed by Pakistan with five and Georgia and Thailand with three each. The number of unconfirmed cases of media-related killings totaled 22 with Mexico topping the list with four cases. Meanwhile, the number of journalists imprisoned as of Dec 1, 2008 reached 125 with China having the most number of jailed journos with 28, followed by Cuba with 21, and Eritrea with 13.
