'Protect Journalists, Free Expression in Thailand' — Media Groups
|
Three media organisations, one each from the Philippines, Malaysia and Thailand, issued separate statements calling on the Thai government to ensure the protection and safety of journalists covering events in Thailand in the aftermath of the dispersal of the red shirt protesters and the subsequent rioting that broke out in Bangkok on May 19. The three organisations — Thai Journalists Association, Center for Media Freedom and Responsibility, and Centre for Independent Journalism — are founding members and associate members of the Southeast Asian Press Alliance (SEAPA). They also called for the protection of free expression in order that journalists can effectively perform their tasks and Thais are given better access to information.
