Delhi-based media news site 'The Hoot' investigates what could be an orchestrated effort to "destabilise Iran" as the country is beset by mass protests following its June 12 presidential elections. According to 'The Hoot' editors, they found some irregularities in some Twitter accounts that cropped up at the height of the mass protests last week. "Were these legitimate Iranian people or the works of a propaganda machine?" asked 'The Hoot' as it narrowed down its focus on a handful of people "who have accounted for 30,000 Iran related Tweets in the past few days". Among the similarities that they found include an extremely high number of Tweets from this particular group, whose Twitter accounts were created on Saturday, June 13. "'IranElection' was each of their most popular keyword. With some exceptions, each were posting in English. Half of them [also] had the exact same profile photo," it reported. "It became obvious that this was the work of a team of people with an interest in destabilising Iran. The profiles are phonies and were created with the sole intention of destabilising Iran and effecting public opinion as to the legitimacy of Iran's election."
