BANGKOK — The Asia Media Forum is deeply concerned at the news that the car of Nurul Kabir, editor of the Dhaka-based daily 'New Age', has recently been chased by unidentified gun-wielding motor bikers. Kabir, a journalist of regional repute, is known particularly for his ceaseless courageous fight on different fronts against the authoritarian rule of Bangladesh’s military controlled government between January 2007 and December 2008. While it is unfortunate that he has been exposed to such intimidation when an elected government has already been installed in the country, we strongly maintain that an attempt on his life is nothing but an attack on the freedom of expression in general, and freedom of the media in particular. The Asia Media Forum, therefore, unequivocally protests against the reprehensible incident and demand that the Bangladesh government find out the perpetrators of the incident and bring them to justice.
